General Motors Fundamentals Series

Comments and Input for Second Edition

Current GM ASEP Instructors can send comments, requests, and suggestions for improvements for a 2nd Edition of these textbooks.

I already have many ideas for the 2nd Edition and some of them are listed below..

I know many of you have ideas and suggestions for the 2nd Edition. Please send those ideas by e-mail to:

jrehkopf(at)jeffreyrehkopf.com. (Use the @ symbol instead of (at))

Ideas and planned changes

Automatic Transmission and Transaxle

  • Change title to Automatic Transmissions
  • Reduce references to hydraulic and mechanical transmission controls, better coverage of electronics.
  • Add information about hybrid vehicle transmission operations
  • Add information (chapter) on two mode transmission
  • More information on 5 and 6 speed automatics transmissions

Automotive Engines

  • Do we want more or less coverage of rebuilding/machine shop procedures?
  • Increased coverage of variable valve timing
  • More information on displacement on demand (DOD)
